My paintings are visual expressions of music. This is how I visualize music. The basic elements I work with - 'notes' and 'colors' - each has its own personality that is associated with one another. Their manifestation through various means and methods compel a whole range of expressive possibilities.
A type of instrument indicates an
art material; A rhythmic harmony leads a color arrangement or composition; A
solo or an ensemble exposes a line or a flat plane; A rhythm and its speed or
a melodic movement of the hands of a player translate into touch and texture of
a canvas. The flow of a melody chooses
the direction of a canvas, and sometimes, a certain base key note sets a mood
for an entire painting. The overall feel
of a musical piece is sometimes expressed through a main color, a particular
shape or composition. As I paint, I
often feel that my hands become a musician’s because musical elements pass
through my body and become translated into a painting piece. And in the process of connecting these two
worlds, I, at last, find my inner peace and realize I am on the path that leads
to healing. The selected music and the
finished painting that is inspired from it are residues of my personal feelings
and impressions from my inner state, and as I paint, sometimes suppressed,
sometimes hidden emotions rise up and I experience a therapeutic effect. Furthermore, it is my hope that those in
similar states of mind will have a chance to let out their emotions, even if
indirectly, through my works.
